***************************************************************
The information on this site is free to the end user, to Producers, to anyone wanting to promote a show or workshop or any other event that is considered "Community Theater," "Independent Theater" or "Off-Off Broadway."
To have your production reviewed, posted or covered in our website, please write to Roger Gonzalez at LocalTheatreNY@gmail.com. or Rogertcp@aol.com.
Images and photographs are preferable in JPG format. PDF, Tiff, and other formats are for the most part unusable and will delay the publishing of your listings.
When it comes to the actual copy of your announcement, PLEASE use regular text. Pulling formatted text from pre-designed flyers, PDFs is too time consuming.
Artwork, logos and other poster designs are best when provided in a format that can be used entirely on a page or resized to fit one of our small buttons (widgets) on the side columns. Any artwork that is hard to read when reduced will not be used. A show logo is often the best way to get your listing featured as button.
LocalTheatreNY.com serves mostly the theater community in the New York Metropolitan areas, inlcuding Long Island and parts of New Jersey.
Ways to promote your show on www.LocaltheatreNY.com
There are several ways to promote your production on our site:
Press Releases/Listings – Press releases on occasion may be published on our site or blasted (mass emails) to our mailing list. Simple, informative with a link to your groups site (where details can be found) is the best way to get listed.
The preferred choice of communication is a listing (as in a show that is now playing or auditioning). Listings should include the following information (in regular type/ font) in the order listed below in copy and paste text format:
- Group’s Name
- Title of production
- Author and key credits as required by copywrite.
- Director, producer, choreographer or musical director’s name as you wish it to appear online
- Dates and times of show
- Location and address of venue where show is being presented
- Information on how to order or reserve tickets in the form of a phone number, email address or website (we recommend various alternatives)
- Handicap accessibility or lack thereof
- Any special offers or discounts (we encourage unique offers to our readers)
- Logos, pictures, and any other artwork, however, are rarely published on our listings page.
- We do suggest including the names of your cast on a listing but will only consider listing cast members during slow periods or when there is space and time to do so.
Flyers and Posters – Flyers/posters in actuality work best when printed and distributed in the traditional format and not when shrunk down to fit on our site or when used as an ad. Unfortunately, all details and key information are lost when we are forced to “squeeze” your flyer on our website and quality is lost when converting to GIF. We strongly recommend instead that you create a 2”X2” digital ad with all the key information needed to make a reservation or generate interest.
These little “ad” buttons (widgets) would then encourage our readers to link directly to your site for more details or to our own “Listings” page. Eye catching and professionally produced artwork, logos and other designs are encouraged.
Production stills and pictures – Please do not send rehearsal shots unless actors are in some form of costume or (at least) on a partially finished set. Colorful, costume-filled, and realistic representations of your production are the best way to attract audience interest. Action shots are even better. As for cast shots, we may use some, but please provide names identifying the subjects of your shots in a clear manner. Photographs will only be accepted in digital format. The preferred format is JPG for photographs.
Audition Notices -
Deadlines – Want to see your notice on our site? The earlier you get it to us, the better. Please allow at least 2-3 weeks for any and all notices to be posted. Following our guidelines will certainly speed the process. On occasion, we will accommodate last minute postings, but will not guarantee that they will publish.
Audition notices should include all contact information, including directions to your theater/ audition site, the name and email of someone who can answer questions about the auditions before the actual audition date, character breakdowns, requirements (headshots, resume...any other information they need to bring along), and if possible the actual dates of the performances. Please use caution when auditioning children and be sensitive to the need of adult supervision or a chaperone attending the audition. Any pre-casting information or information concerning what roles are actually available should be indicated.
Typos, Errors, Corrections – Because we are free service we cannot guarantee that all copy and spelling will be 100% accurate and we assume no responsibility for such errors. We strongly urge you to review all copy once it has been posted and immediately alert us to any typos or misspellings, particularly phone numbers and other such contact info that’s critical to direct response.
Critical / Theatrical Reviews – Effective February 2009 we will no longer review any show. HOWEVER, we will promote your group, provide talent profiles, provide group profiles and histories and anything new or interesting about your group, talent, or production that might make for interesting reading. Find an angle and let us know...
We would, of course, prefer to write these articles much in advance of your opening
