The LARAMIE PROJECT @ Heights Players - ONLY 2 Performances Left!

Laramie Director, Robert J. Weinstein, talks about the personal meaning of this groundbreaking play now showing at the Heights Players in Brooklyn Heights. There are just 2 performances left: Saturday March 17th @ 8PM and a Sunday matinee March 18th.

In 1998, a young college student at the University of Wyoming, Matthew Shepard was beaten, tied to a fencepost and left to die by two men of similar age.  After, the nature of the crime was revealed to be from hate and fear of homosexuality. A national debate ensued in America that painfully endures to this day.  As the tragic events exploded all over the national media, a group of New York City based actors and writers, the Tectonic Theater Project, known for their unique style and view, were intrigued and went to Laramie, Wyoming to study the impact of these events and the result is the Heights’ March production of The Laramie Project.

The innovative and topical play is driven by the theme that “Tolerance is not the same as Acceptance “ and is being staged by Heights veteran, Robert J. Weinstein.  In previous years Rob has staged titles such as: Angels in America, Inherit the Wind, A View from the Bridge, Sweet Bird of Youth, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Nights Dream and last season’s Hamlet.

The play has a unique production style and will be a new stage experience for the Heights’ audience.  The ensemble of eight actors portray over sixty-six roles to tell this unique the story.  Among this powerhouse group are a mix of current, former and new arrivals to the Heights’ stage. Our cast includes Jill Boldstridge, Kristen Keim, and Alex Amarosa, from our current season.  Amber Bloom, Dov Lebowitz-Nowak and Christopher Homer return to the Heights stage.
